WASHINGTON (TSCNN) — Just on the heels of the release of the MacBook Air, Apple has allegedly announced the
upcoming launch of a new electoral voting tool.* Apple’s iVote will allegedly revolutionize the way we vote in the 2008 Presidential Elections, this according a recent Teleconference (Skypecast) which supposedly included both Apple President, Steve Jobs and Democratic Presidential candidate, Barack Obama.
Using private industry to facilitate the technical aspects of the Democratic voting process may seem unheard of, but this is actually nothing new. Diebold, the large Ohio based corporation, is a privately owned company who manufactures the direct recording electronic (DRE) voting machines that have become the industry standard in US electronic voting.
The iVote will operate differently than its offline counterparts, using a web based tool to capture the votes of poll-going Americans this November. iVote will actually operate less like a website and more like a widget; allowing constituents to embed the tool into their blogs and MySpace/Facebook profiles.
“I think that this speaks to the tremendous power of Web 2.0 that the next American President could be decided using a sleekly designed, proprietary Apple widget”, said someone on the conference call who sounded much like Steve Jobs.
As of press-time there was no official release date for the Obama-centric iVote. There is also no word from the Clinton camp on whether they will be releasing their own Online Presidential voting tools. In related news: Ron Paul supporters, flush with campaign contributions, have already released their own web-based voting system. According to Ron Paul supporters, who cite obscure constitutional references to early voting rules, their candidate has already received enough Online votes to shore-up the Presidential nomination. Unfortunately for the Paul camp, their system has operating system requirements that will make their website invisible to 95% of America’s voters.
