Just this morning I was sending an eCard to Robert Scoble because I was breaking up with @scobleizer, his Twitter feed. But what happens when Twitter breaks up with you?
As I scrolled through the friendly Tweeters I follow, I noticed one of them was missing and had been missing for some time. Where is @laughcrazy AKA Jon, an avid twitterer who I befriended at SXSWi? So I sent him a text message and he told me he had been deleted. But not just him, it’s also happened to many others he’s talked to, but according to Jon Twitter is working on it.
What does that mean ‘working on it’? Will they be able to recover his tweets and his followers?
Michael Arrington of TechCrunch had this happen to him in late Aprils:
I noticed that I couldn’t log in and assumed the service was simply
down. But it went on for days and no one else was complaining. So I
emailed to ask what the issue was, and they were able to restore the
account. no data seems to be lost.
It looks like Michael got lucky. Jon was told that due to a system upgrade (and the new iPhone 3G) some accounts had been deleted. With all of the Fail Whales we’ve been seeing lately, I really hope that these accounts will ‘resurface’ soon.
I did some looking around and couldn’t find any other stories about the recent deletions. Maybe some of you guys know more about this. If so please put some links in the comments and if you were deleted and you got a message from Twitter please send it over or paste it in the comments.
And now a moment of silence for Jon and all the Tweets he has lost……………………..

…still down…If you peruse the GetSatisfaction site and the Twitter forums, you begin to notice a number of people who are no longer gruntled, as Michael Scott would say. I have my apology t-shirt from Twitter, but no restored account yet…ah well.
The new account is up, so hooray for that.

Thanks for being the first person to quote Michael Scott on my blog!
Got a pic of the apology t-shirt?
